Mayor Haley Visits 5th Grade

West Elementary 5th grade students were given the opportunity to learn more about the campaign process, what being a good citizen looks like, and the roles of our elected officials on Wednesday, October 26, 2016. Mrs. Kandi Barnes organized a visit from our own current mayor, Mr. Jimmy Haley. Dalton Croasmun introduced Mayor Haley while other 5th grade students asked him intriguing questions about different areas he spoke on. Fifth grade is currently completing a Civics unit that will lead up to the mock election they are holding next Tuesday. Thank you Mayor Haley for sharing your time with our students.

Report Cards

First quarter report cards will be distributed Thursday, October 27, 2016 at the parent teacher conferences. If you are unable to attend these conferences, your child will be given their report card on Friday.

Tomorrow, October 19th, 2016, students and staff are encouraged to wear orange to promote kindness, acceptance, and inclusion and to stand together against bullying.

Billy Hix, retired NASA consultant and Motlow professor, volunteers his time to bring our 4th & 5th graders his planetarium dome.

Fourth and fifth grade students were introduced to the night sky, several prominent constellations, Greek mythology, the moon and its phases, and close ups of planets and their moons. Our place in the solar system, our place in the universe, and distance and age of objects in the night sky were also addressed on this amazing trip that took place right in our own school. It was outta this world!!!!
